High 68 with chance of afternoon showers

New graduate, in cap, robe, shorts, and flip-flops,
Looking to the stands
Where there should have been one more grandparent,
If she could have waited ten more days to see this day.

We told him she would have been so proud;
We told him she was smiling from heaven;
Then the rain came, and the dark,
And heaven cast only gloom on the earth
Without the grandma he’d known all his life.
She couldn’t wait ten more days to see this day?

Damp sunbeams on moist eyes,
And when he tilted his head
He could see his grandma’s smile
As he looked at the rainbow.
