Good piece, Mary! I think you hit all my terrors of aging AND most of our approaches to it.
We have our names in at a retirement village that also has in-house health care plus (vital for me) a memory support unit. Both my parents died from dementia. Besides heredity, I have a TBI from a plane crash in my youth that left me with cognitive problems. I’m hoping I can keep my act together until we get to move.
Meanwhile I exercise daily (with a smart watch that gives me condescending little notes when I slack off) and keep my mind active. We retired just before COVID (lucky break!) and spending time “trapped” at home with my wife was wonderful. I have plans to get a couple books self-published before it gets to be too hard.
Good luck with your journey, Mary, it sounds like you’re going in the right direction!
