Good for you, Bebe. My wife went from stopping at her mom’s apartment after work to occasionally staying overnight to living there full time except for work to having someone come in while she was at work during the day. I would stay overnight every 2–3 days, sharing a single bed with Deb. We managed up until Mom lost the ability to hold herself upright, even with support, and we couldn’t get her to a commode any longer. She wasn’t at hospice more than a day or so before she passed.

But! She got to see her great-granddaughter’s first birthday, and we took her in a wheelchair to an ice skating show (one of her favorite things) on her own birthday. She was still rational and interactive until the last couple days, but once she had her 85th birthday it was like she decided she’d tagged third base and it was time to head for home. She was gone within the fortnight.

It was a lot of time apart for Deb and me, but we agreed it was all worth it. We would not change a thing. Deb says her only regret is not taking time off from work to take Mom to vacation places; but she had an awful lot of things going on at work, and we had no clue Mom would decline so quickly. I hope that you (and your hubs!) will also look back on this time with no regrets. 💚💚💚
