For text, phones are great, Maude. And for basic images. That's 99% of what I post, so for what I do, I'm only mildly irked.
But for several years, people who took AMAZING photos would post them on Medium with narratives about how they took the photos, the background behind the subjects, and so on. And I and others would open the stories on our big desktop monitors and be blown away. Or I would bookmark a story I saw on my phone because I wanted to look at it later in a format where I could appreciate it.
Medium also took away imbedded photos, where half the width would be image and the other half would be text. It was a nice way of having the image visible while reading about it at the same time. But it didn't work on a small screen — the image would be too small, the text would be too squished, or both. So that got axed, also.
What some of us are lamenting is Medium as a great text + picture platform, and we miss that. Some folks have moved on, and we miss them. It will all blow over at some point... probably when Medium makes another big change. (Which should be happening in three... two... 😁)
