For my first wedding (courthouse in Guam) we didn't know about the whole witness thing. Fortunately we were second in line, and we borrowed the witnesses from the first wedding in return for acting as photographers.

While things went south with marriage #1 (which is why I'm on #2 now, which has lasted MUCH longer) neither of us ever regretted getting hitched just the two of us. For basically the same reasons you laid out for yours, Aimée.
