Erika, I get anxious reading about how wearing a mask is now “political,” so the anti-lockdown supporters (not just the protesters, but people going about their business) are literally getting in the faces of people who wear masks in public. Coughing on them, yelling at them. If it is just me out there and it happens, I would use my Navy self-defense training and run away (seriously, that was Option 1 in “What to do when you feel you are in a dangerous situation” — run, run fast!) or at least vacate the area promptly. But if somebody comes after my wife, I will probably skip Option 2 (talk your way out of it) and go for Option 3 (attack them with everything you’ve got). Coughing, spitting, or yelling on my wife counts as physical assault, these days. I’d probably hurt myself as much as I would hurt them (in class we had five minutes of stretching before we started kicking people in the head — and that was 40 years ago!) but I kind of have a soft spot for my wife.
