Eclipse Poem
Having someone you care for with you while the world changes around you
Sitting in a lakeside park up north,
Hoping clouds will part
Before totality is reached.
Watching a bench with man and woman
Twenty yards in front;
Suddenly chilled from lake breeze
Plus thicker clouds and
Expanding moon over sun.
He pulls her hoodie into place
Protecting her head,
Keeping her warm;
He doesn’t need his hood
So she adjusts his collar
To return the gesture.
Clothing arranged,
They sit closer together,
Shoulders touching.
He brings up a photo
On his phone
So she rests her head next to his
While they share the moment.
Just being together
With the eclipse happening
Up there
Somewhere
Above their world.
