Dolphins also like to ride the bow waves of subs and tugs. When our sub was coming into port, a tug would normally come to meet us for material or personnel transfer (like the harbor pilot); dolphins would be riding the tug out, then switch to our sub (BIG bow wave!) for the ride back in. Different ports, same behavior, so I guess “everybody” knew the trick.
