Diabetic here, diagnosed in 1999 when a urine sample I submitted for an employer drug test smelled so sweet the tech brought it to the attention of the duty doctor.

I have two meds I take twice daily for blood sugar, plus one for cholesterol control (big problem for diabetics). I see my doctor every three months, with A1c reading and whatever other tests come up in rotation.

But I've also lost weight and toned up since I was diagnosed, because I am TERRIFIED of needles, and the normal progression for T2 diabetics is to take a particular med, start taking higher doses as the body developed resistance, switch to another med after maxing out on the previous one... and at some point, switch to insulin shots once or twice a day, because oral meds don't cut it.

So far my A1c readings have been 6.5 or below for several years now, and my PCP has been very happy with me. I look forward to keeping away from needles plus taking good care of my wonderful wife for a few more years now. 😊
