Dennett is convinced that many men indeed use purses, except that they do it by renting space in their wife's/significant other's purse.
This points again to the pocket/purse divide. Linda (1st wife) hated purses and used me for transporting her stuff in my pockets. Deb is tolerant of purses, but prefers a minimalist size barely large enough for her wallet and phone. I stuff things in my pockets all the time (I love cargo pants!) but when necessary I carry my own purse — which looks an awful lot like a laptop case, which makes sense since it's a laptop case (but also stores computer supplies, snacks, disposable toothbrush, airport-safe tools, charging unit, and whatever else I need for a trip).
And then there are the ones who cannot image stepping out into public without a purse. Or bag. Or "I'm sorry ma'am you can only carry that on the flight if it fits under the seat in front of you" carry-all.
