I realize the importance of building to an emotional pitch. Of cutting the scene just as the danger approaches. Of leaving the reader in fear for the safety of the protagonist.

Nevertheless, this is why we stream TV series only when all the episodes have been posted. So that we don’t get stranded waiting to see if an author has gone all G. R. R. Martin on us and killed off a character of whom we’ve grown fond.
