So we’re listening to the radio over breakfast while paging through the piles of catalogs thoughtfully delivered by the box-load this time of year, when the DJ mentions that a Facebook study found December 11 is the most likely date for relationships to break up — probably because that’s the point at which someone realizes that it’s time to buy a Christmas present. The DJ then makes some comment about HIM breaking it off with HER.
ME: Why does it have to be the guy that breaks it off? Why not the woman?
DEB: Because the woman bought his Christmas gift back in October. It’s already wrapped. She’s thought about how to present it. What story goes with it. How his face will light up when he opens it.
ME: While he…
DEB: …just realized on December 10th that he needs to buy a Christmas gift this year. And then panicked.
