Clay, this would have been good to read twenty (thirty?) years ago, for me at least (I hope other folks still have time!). My parents’ “cognitive impairment” (my sister hates the term “dementia”) is at the point where they are unable to learn new things, because they cannot recall something from a minute ago. [My father has — twice in the last week — called our house, gotten the answering machine, started to leave a message, said, “Hello? Hello? Still there? Hello?!” and remarked to my mother, “They hung up on me!” while the machine was still recording.] I like your approach, and I wish I had used it back when my parents and I could have benefitted from it.
