Chat with Deb—We Got The Call

It’s not that the clock has started, so much; we just notice the numbers ticking, now

Last week Deb and I got The Call. A message left on our answering machine.¹

No, not that call, the other one.

No, not that one either. <sigh> Deb can explain.

DEB: I called QPRC² back, honey. They have an apartment opening up soon, but it’s that one with two bedrooms and a den. I told them I’d talk to you, but we aren’t interested. Right?

ME: More space than we really need, and we’d pay extra. Still a no-brainer to me, luv!

We put in our names at a retirement community in 2022. The size of apartment we preferred was two bedrooms (we will use one as an office for us both) and two baths (we can share a bathroom, we really can — we’ve done it while traveling—but for 25 years we’ve each had our own, so why force new habits in our old age?). QPRC also had one with a den thrown in, so we said we’d think about that if one opened up.

We thought about it. Nope!

DEB: The whole point of downsizing is to have less stuff that family has to go through after we’re gone, so why have the temptation of another room for things we should get rid of beforehand?
