Chat with Deb—So “Cute” is Variable, Apparently

One person’s “cute in love” is another person’s “what the #&@%! happened to my perfectly good secretary?”

Happy Valentine’s Day, cute couples out there! Never mind what your boss or coworkers say! (Photo by Debby Hudson on Unsplash)

DEB: (growling) So he didn’t get it to you until this morning?

ME: It’s okay, still plenty of time to post the files.

DEB: Before the service at three today?

ME: (checking my watch; it’s a little after noon) Um, sure!

DEB: (sighs) His mind gets so distracted, it’s like dealing with a teenager in love sometimes.

Our church secretary came out as gay just a few years ago. He’s in his 30s, but he also has only been in a serious relationship with a guy for a bit over a year. So yes, at times there is a bit of a distraction from his church duties, especially since they started talking about moving in together.

As the church webmaster, I depend on the secretary to get me pertinent files and information to post on the website so people know about services, or what is going on with other events, or can download the service bulletin to follow along when they watch our stream from home. We haven’t missed any deadlines, but once or twice I’ve had to send a reminder.
