Glacier water is the cleanest on earth! Or not. Sometimes soooo not…

The harbor in ‎⁨Djúpivogur⁩. Fishing boats and tour buses, the cash flow of the village. (all photos by author) Pretty lady on the right is my wife Deb, for those of you joining us late.

We pulled into ‎⁨Djúpivogur⁩ early, but there was no fog! (Okay, not NO fog, but not enough to delay us pulling in.) Our tour was “Rural East Iceland,” with promises of glaciers and scenery.

ME: These are really nice tour buses!

The door in the middle of the bus was a nice touch. Seats were very comfy and the windows allowed for excellent visibility.

We got to enjoy the scenery on the way to the park with the glaciers.

Mountains and mist and sunlight and big mountains and clouds and seriously big mountains.

Our guide kept a running commentary going as we passed through towns and past geological features. We learned that many of the mountains in this region of Iceland experience accelerated glacial erosion that grinds the mountains down, but does not grind them up — scree (lots and LOTS of small stones) cover the sides and bases of these mountains, making them very hard to traverse.
