Chat with Deb—First Kisses and Who Started
It varied, but not by all that much, it turned out
We’re watching one of our Brit shows, where the detective inspector is walking with someone after a social gathering, and she suddenly grabs him and kisses him.
DEB: Well! She’s very aggressive!
Which got me thinking. (Yes, I still paid attention to the show.) Mostly because I had recently written about our first kiss for a story I did for our grandniece. Later:
ME: When we had our first kiss, we met in the middle, right? No 90/10 rule.¹
DEB: Definitely!
ME: So I was going over first kisses in my mind—a small sample set, admittedly—and I’m pretty sure I only remember being the initiator with one. And in that case I wasn’t expecting a real kiss, I was just trying to warn her off.
DEB: (gives me a “Say what?” look)
ME: Okay, remember I told you about Lisa? I’d graduated from the Academy² and was stationed in DC, [my sister] was going to UofM, and Lisa, her old roommate at Mary Washington³, had come to visit and meet up with her boyfriend who was still at the Academy.
