Charlotte, I was stationed in New England for several years (Windsor Locks CT, 1981; Groton/New London CT, 1981–1984; Newport RI, 1989–1990) and while the winters aren’t great, New Englanders know how to handle them. The Plan (once it became obvious that I was going to be passed over for promotion during my tour in Korea in 1988) was to get back to New England in 1989 so that I could muster out there. While transferring between Korea and RI I stopped off at Guam to see my girlfriend, to whom I planned to propose, even though I knew she would probably say no (she asked me first), so The Plan went through the first of many major rewrites over the next couple years.

Deb and I drove to Newport for our 15th anniversary in February 2015. The drive wasn’t hard, and, despite the streets and sidewalks being snow & ice covered (that winter thing!) we had a great time. Next in New England: Maine (visit our nephew) and Boston (niece’s wedding) in 2018.
