Brief testimonial: I had Roz check over a story I'd written years ago. I was looking for suggestions to improve it. Her most cogent comment: "You haven't done anything in this story to make me care about these characters." Which made me realize, well, crap! I really DON'T care about the characters, because I was going for the plot twist, and both characters are basically assholes. And I saved myself the effort of wasting more time on the story.
A set of short stories where I really do care about the characters is what I showed Roz next. Her suggestion: make it a book, not a short story collection; flesh it out; and give it a real story development. Still working on that one for a second look. Pretty soon, now, Roz!
