My wife (who grew up in rural PA) did not believe me when I sauntered across the street in the middle of the block during business hours, working my way through the traffic, and I explained that This Is How It's Done In Chicago. Since she didn't know how to read the drivers (apparently it takes practice) we crossed at the corners after waiting for the walk signs after that.
Then we went driving in the Loop. "People just walk in front of cars!" Um, yeah? See, we know that the light ahead is red, so— "Why aren't there more bodies in the streets?!" Well, there's... see we have... it's Chicago, honey, that's just how it works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
