Ah, Widetire, you’re thinking she was using that “mom ESP” power? Could be. I like it.

(And if you are thinking, “Wait, you wrote the line, don’t you know?” Um, not always so much. K’s mom is based on my mother, who was a school nurse at my high school; she used to tell us stories — AFTER we were well out of high school! — about her patients. And yes, most of her drop-ins were kids with acne, cramps, or trying to get out of PE class… come to think of it, the three often went together. ANYway, when I’m “in the zone” writing dialog, the lines sort of write themselves, rather than me sitting and thinking, So he would say THIS, then she would say THAT. Also, love her dearly, but my mother always wanted to know what I was up to — because: mothers — and that I was happy. So if I had gotten a note from a girl in high school [never did, btw] she would have wanted to know I was happy about it.)
