A good friend of Deb's runs a food pantry. Her list of "stuff people should contribute more" agrees with yours (especially the milk and soap) [I like your spices idea, Brian, but that's because I use them a lot, and they can make blah foods interesting] but one thing on her list I would add: feminine hygiene supplies. Pads & tampons are a major expense to women, and somehow always end up being less available than food. When Deb worked at a local university, the campus food bank was always looking for pads and tampons as contributions; apparently toilet paper is a “necessity” but women’s health products are not. 😡
