A Chat Between Two Women
With a certain young man in common
Jody waved at Jeanne across the restaurant until the woman came over to her table. “Hi, I’m Jody! I looked up your social media pics so I would know you when you got here.”
Jeanne smiled and sat down across the table. “Me too! Great minds think alike! … What?”
Jody suppressed her grin. “Nothing. Just, ah, a mutual friend of ours likes to use that phrase.”
Jeanne waved her hand. “True, but, just for the record, I knew that phrase before we started seeing each other—and yes, I know, he uses ‘for the record’ a lot, too.”
“Oh, order coming, I ordered them for the table, he said you would like these.”
The waitress arrived with a platter of nachos, set them down, and took drink orders.
“This is getting spooky. Kinda.” Jeanne took a cheesy blob of nachos and put them on her plate. “I just met you, and already you know things about me, just because we have Brian in common. A mutual… friend? Good friend? Kinda sorta boyfriend? How did you two meet?” She took a bite of nachos. “Mm, you’re right, these are good!”
“We met at work. But can we start with you first?”
Jeanne wiped her mouth. “Sure. Some personal history: I was a total nerd in high school…
